There’s a Japanese cultural concept called “herikudaru” which basically means you should “degrade or humble yourself” while praising the listener🇯🇵 It’s considered rude not to put yourself down like this, especially when talking to someone above you in a hierarchy🙇🏻‍♂️

All these emails were translated directly into English, and when the writers behind there emails read them in a foreign language, they realized they weren’t even aware they were saying these things!

It’s crazy how unaware we can be of the most basic cultural behaviors we all do without thinking that seem completely foreign to outsiders🙌
